Online Rankings Terms & Privacy Notice

Effective: 29 October 2026

The short version

Online Rankings are optional. You can always play hoop offline without an online account.

If you join, we use the smallest practical amount of data to run a fair public leaderboard. We do not sell your game data, run ads from it, or use it for marketing. You must be 16 or older to join Online Rankings. You can ask us to delete your online data at any time.

Who is responsible

Steven Dijkman, established in the Netherlands, is responsible for the personal data used by Online Rankings (the "controller").

For privacy questions, your data, or help with account deletion, email hello@hoop-game.com.

Joining and using Online Rankings

Online Rankings let players compare scores publicly. They are not needed to play the game.

When you play for an online score, the game uploads a recording of that run so we can check it. The recording shows gameplay and movement; it is not a video of your screen. Your score can appear after the upload passes initial checks. We review it in the background. It stays eligible for the leaderboard while we review it, and we remove it if we find that the run is invalid.

By joining, you confirm that you are at least 16 years old and agree to these terms. Keep your email account secure. Your public handle must be unique and must not impersonate someone else, include unlawful or abusive material, introduce non-human-generated scores, or otherwise make the leaderboard unsafe or misleading.

We may hide, invalidate, or remove a score, a run, or a handle where we have a reasonable basis to believe that:

We will record a reason for an invalidated run. We do not promise that Online Rankings will always be available, uninterrupted, or free of errors. Nothing in these terms removes rights that the law does not allow us to remove.

You can change your public handle in the game once every 30 days. We may rename a handle that breaks these terms; in that case you can choose a new one immediately. We may temporarily or permanently block an account from posting new online scores for abuse or serious integrity problems. This does not stop offline play. We may pause new online submissions or public replay access during an outage or security incident.

What we collect and why

When you choose Online Rankings, we may process:

We use this data to provide Online Rankings, link an account, verify scores, prevent cheating and abuse, investigate suspicious runs, protect the service, and meet legal obligations. We do not collect a date of birth. We do not use gameplay video, microphone, camera, contacts, precise location, or advertising profiles for Online Rankings.

Our legal basis is performance of the optional Online Rankings service you ask us to provide, our legitimate interest in keeping rankings fair and secure, and where necessary, compliance with law. You may object to processing based on our legitimate interests; contact us at the address above. You are, of course, also free to not opt-in to Online Rankings and keep playing offline.

What other people can see

The public leaderboard may show your public handle, score, game mode, arena class, and relevant ranking information. A score may appear before its replay review finishes. Once accepted, a top-three replay that we still hold may be watched by anyone, including people who are not signed in. The replay shows recorded gameplay and player movement, not your email or sign-in details. Viewers can download and keep a copy of that replay file. Removing it from our service later cannot erase copies others have kept. Do not choose a handle that reveals information you do not want to make public.

Your email address, account identifiers, security events, and private review notes are not public.

Where data is stored and who receives it

The Online Rankings database is hosted with Supabase in EU Central (Frankfurt). Supabase and necessary email-delivery and infrastructure providers process data only to operate, secure, and support the service.

If a provider needs to process data outside the European Economic Area, we will use the safeguards required by applicable data-protection law and provide more information on request.

The hoop website itself uses no analytics cookies or advertising trackers. YouTube is contacted only if you choose to play a YouTube video on the website.

How long we keep data

Your choices and rights

You can keep playing offline at any time. You can ask to access, correct, delete, restrict, export, or object to the use of your personal data by emailing hello@hoop-game.com. We normally respond within one month. You may also complain to the Dutch data-protection authority, the Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens.

Changes to this notice

If we make a material change, we will update this page before it applies and change the effective date above. If a change needs your agreement, we will ask for it in the game before continuing the affected processing.

Governing law

These terms are governed by Dutch law. This does not take away any mandatory consumer-protection rights you have where you live.
